Please protect our environment
Especially the corals and the marine life!
The coral reefs are the jungles of the sea and they belong without any doubt to the greatest treasures of our world. The variety of species is never ending, but not immune from Man's impact on the planet.
Coral reefs need sunlight and warm water to survive. Most corals can only exist in water temperatures of 20 C and above, so you can find the most colourful corals in tropical warm waters. The corals are not a plant which they are often mistaken for, but a complex system of smallest life. In the marine life there are thousands of plants and animals which are literally invisible. In the ocean there is a lot of plankton. This so called zoo plankton is a very important part of the feeding cycle – even the biggest fish in the ocean, the whale shark, feeds on this.
The Indian Ocean is the home of a worldwide exceptional variety of marine life. More than 3000 species of fish and 500 types of coral are known up to now. Marine biologists are all in agreement that there is still a great deal of marine life to be discovered.
..............
This fragile eco system struggles worldwide to survive. Global warming and El Nino lead to coral bleaching and the rising of the oceans temperature. Because of this, the algae in the corals skeleton die and the corals turn white.
Many corals can recover, but if the warming continues they will be completely The production of CO2 into our atmosphere –especially produced by the industrial countries- , the sour rain influences the seas worldwide. Just compare this with the dying forests back home. Another thing that is destroying our marine world is the over fishing, dynamite and cyanide fishing, eg. in Indonesia and in the Philippines. Some coral reefs have already been completely destroyed.
We as divers can support the marine life by being careful divers!
Do not touch anything, do not take anything with you and be careful with your buoyancy. Please everyone: protect our environment so that we and also future generations can enjoy the marine life.
